Easter and Beyond

Easter weekend we had Courtney, Greg's sister, Grandma & Grandpa Presley, and Greg's cousin Kelly come to visit us and to join us for the sunrise service at Arlington National Cemetery. That particular sunrise service has become Greg and I's Easter tradition. I love Easter sunrise service, but there's something especially poignant about reflecting upon Christ's resurrection while surrounded by the hallowed ground of the sleeping heroes of our nation. But I digress, after getting up early and seeing the Doves released at the end of the service that Sunday, Aunt Karen, Uncle Jeff, and Kasey came to spend Easter afternoon with us and we all trekked downtown for the cherry blossoms.

Monday morning, Greg got up early and headed into work and then Grandma and Grandpa got ready and headed out to visit Aunt Mary and Uncle Jerry in Harper's Ferry. Kelly and Courtney slept in for a bit, and I caught up on emails and some reading. Then the gals and I headed out to Gravelly Point for a picnic lunch. It was fun to watch the planes land at Reagan National Airport, and to get to know Courtney and Kelly a bit more. After lunch we headed south to Old Town Alexandria to walk around and to check out the old fashioned 'penny' candy store. Unfortunately things don't cost a penny anymore, but it was still fun. We then stopped at a small cafe for lemonade before heading back for the day to relax at the apartment.

Tuesday, I was back to work. Courtney and Kelly were with us for the rest of the week seeking out various adventures in the area. Uncle Jeff and Kelly's boyfriend, Les, came on Friday and took the gals downtown, before he, Kelly, and Les headed back to Fredericksburg, VA.

Friday evening, Greg and I took Courtney out to one of our favorite local dives, Hard Times Cafe, for chili, and then the three of us went to The Dairy Godmother for frozen custard. It was Greg's first time there as well as Courtney's so it was fun to share the DC area institution with them. Greg and I both got the Cherry Blossom flavor of the day which was scrumdiliuptious, and Courtney went with their always yummy chocolate. We then headed back to rest and relax. Courtney had to fly out Saturday afternoon to head back home to Atlanta.

Greg and I loved having everyone come to visit. And Freyja liked having all the extra attention from Courtney and Kelly throughout the week. We hope that everyone had a great time while they were here, too.

Oh, and we're totally going back to The Dairy Godmother, because Greg approves. =)

Sounds wonderful!

Easter Sunrise at Arlington, hope to share your tradition sometime.
This "Dairy Godmother" place sounds fantastic!
Hope I get there sometime.
